The AS Communication Gateway™ from underground_8 provides a complete security solution for e-mail access for organizations. The solution removes known and unknown threats such as spam, phishing and viruses. underground_8’s AS Communication Gateway™ scans e-mails and ensures that, unlike other e-mail solutions, suspicious e-mails are not moved to external labs or labs accessible to third parties for checking. Furthermore, according to European law it is not permissible for the data of European users to be moved to countries that do not have the EU level of security (e.g. USA, Russia).

filters ensures maximum effectiveness and reliably blocks as much as 80
percent of incoming spam mail in the outer region at the connection

Auto-adaptive e-mail-based end-user quarantine
High-performance technologies for the improvement of communications security are supplemented by efficient tools for easy administration.
These ensure checking down to the last detail all incoming e-mails as
well as internal messages and memories. The user can see the quarantine
contents and spam digests displayed quickly and easily via the
intuitive user interface. The advantage of this technology is that the
end-user quarantine operates automatically and sets up the correct
protection mechanisms for all users of the e-mail system based on an
auto-adaptive algorithm.
For this reason, administrator set up and management of quarantine directories is not needed. Since the end-user quarantine is based purely on e-mail access, there is no need for end-user login on the security appliance.

Botnet filter by selective greylisting
With greylisting there may be frequent problems with legitimate mail servers. The cause of these problems is due to non-SMTP-compliant behaviour.
For the most part this is attributable to sloppy configuration of the
mail system or incorrectly programmed software.
In the past such computers were usually classified as members of botnets, and communication with these servers was prohibited. To avoid problems in day to day operation with such mail servers, underground_8 has developed its own selective greylisting technology. This automatically differentiates between members of a botnet and valid mail servers. As a result, greylisting problems are avoided and spam delivery via botnets is prevented at the connection level.

Content filtering and attachment scanning (policy enforcement)
The AS Communication Gateways™ have an extremely fast content scanning engine. Using this flexible system, it is possible to comply with detailed security guidelines based on
keyword searches in messages or file attachments. Undesirable
attachments or archives may be searched on multiple levels; prohibited
contents are removed automatically whilst the actual e-mail is
nevertheless delivered.

The RMF™ (Realtime Mail Flow) analyser provides the user in real-time with comprehensive information about the sender of an e-mail and the recipient, and shows which
measures the AS Communication Gateway™ has taken for their protection.
Moreover, the administrator is alerted to suspicious e-mail traffic so
that appropriate countermeasures can be taken immediately.
RMF™ thus shows in real-time the current status of every e-mail that has passed through the organization’s infrastructure. Using this evaluation tool, administrators and support employees can quickly answer questions regarding the whereabouts of an e-mail.

MSSP anti-spam
The AS Communication Gateway™, with its integrated options for managing any number of e-mail domains and mail servers and the implemented SMTP auth
function is an underground_8 product that enables MSSPs to offer
services such as remote spam and anti-virus cleaning to their
customers.
It enables MSSPs who host existing domains to route the MX record of a mail domain to a central AS Communication Gateway™. Within the appliance the SMTP traffic is cleaned of viruses and spam and the clean e-mail traffic is then forwarded to the customer’s mail server.
