Responsible corporate governance lies behind our long-term creation of value and strengthens the trust of shareholders, customers, employees, business partners, politicians and the general public in our company.
The success story of underground_8 secure computing GmbH began in 2005, when the company was founded by Günther Wiesauer and Johannes Hörburger. Originally made up of a small team of young developers, underground_8 quickly developed into a specialist in security solutions for a constantly-growing portfolio of clients.
One of the first large-scale projects was the implementation of the MSSP project for a major German computer systems company specialising in IT services in the SME sector in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg. A fully new concept meant that for the first time more than 100 firewalls could be controlled and managed centrally.
2008 saw the beginning of the underground_8 Security Gateway, a product portfolio offering solutions for small, medium-sized and large companies who have the highest requirements for the availability, security and management of their network infrastructures.
A milestone in the company history was the further development of the firewalls for the Next Generation Security and Communication Gateways in 2008, the result of a paradigm shift in the area of complete network security: the focus is no longer merely on satisfying a 360° security requirement, but also on providing maximum availability of communication processes that are vital to the company.
In order to be able to ensure the dynamic expansion of this young company in Europe, especially in the two important markets of Germany and the UK, on the basis of the healthy provision of our own resources, a second round financing deal was concluded with the private equity group CPR in 2008. In addition to equity capital, the company claimed assistance from state support programmes for the technological development of product ranges.
